Try Something New This Volunteers’ Week – Take the Four Week Challenge
It’s Volunteers’ Week – a time to celebrate the people who make our communities stronger, kinder and more connected.
Across South Ribble, Scout volunteers do something amazing every week – helping young people gain skills for life through adventure, friendship and fun. From cooking on campfires to learning first aid, from building dens to building confidence – it’s all made possible thanks to the brilliant volunteers who give their time to make a difference.
But here’s the secret: you don’t need to be xx or Baden-Powell to join in.
Just one hour a week can change a life – maybe even yours.
Celebrating Local Legends
This year, we’re especially proud to celebrate Oliver Wood, a Scout Leader from Longton, who was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the New Year Honours for his outstanding service to young people. Oliver’s story is a powerful reminder of how showing up week after week really matters.
Ollie says: “I just do what I can to give young people opportunities I was lucky to have in Scouts. The award was a huge surprise – but it’s really a celebration of what we do together as volunteers.”
Why Volunteering Matters
Volunteering with Scouts doesn’t just change young lives – it’s good for you too. You’ll meet new people, build your confidence, and feel great doing something that really matters. Whether you’ve got an hour a week or a day a month, your time can make a big difference – to a young person, a community, or even your own wellbeing.
