Recap: Young People Make Their Voice Heard – Promise To The Planet
As Scouts, we’re committed to finding a global solution because we’re led by young people – and they know whose future is at stake. Scouts from across the world are taking a stand to work towards a better world by taking action to reduce climate change. They are getting hands-on to make a difference wherever they live, using their voices to inspire decision makers, and recording their actions for the planet.
During our recent Jamboree selection our young people enjoyed inspiring discussion about global issues and how we could raise awareness in the local area looking at one of the four key areas: recover, recycle, reduce, and rethink and a ‘use their voice’ to fight climate change and encourage other youth members to lead the actions.
We split the young people into a series of groups to choose an action(s) and plan a campaign, activity or community project to deliver in our local community or to other young people from around the district.
We can’t wait to see their plans come into action in the coming months!

How you can take it further
• You could try one of the actions for #PromiseToThePlanet or even come up with your own (like this amazing Cub Scout). Don’t forget to log each time you do something new, so we can track our impact.
• A Million Hands is another great way to take action. It provides programme resources co-created by young people and expert charity partners.
• The Climate Calculator is a tool developed by WWF and DEMOS that lets you choose climate policies you’d like to see in place to help the UK hit its target for greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
• There are also lots of resources to deliver a 5 step Green Champion programme which makes a positive impact in your community. Young people can learn how to run this too, and become a Green Young Leader in the process.
