Ollie Wood steps up as Lead Volunteer at 2nd Longton Scouts

Date: 5th Apr 2025 Author: Jon Nutten

We’re thrilled to announce that Ollie Wood has been appointed as the new Lead Volunteer at 2nd Longton Scout Group – bringing his passion, experience and energy to the next stage of the group’s journey.

Many in our community will already know Ollie as an inspiring Scout leader and dedicated role model to young people across South Ribble. Earlier this year, Ollie was recognised in the King’s New Year Honours List with a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to young people and the community in Longton – a proud moment for the group and a well-deserved recognition of his commitment to Scouting and youth work. A journey rooted in service and adventure

Ollie’s Scouting journey began like many others – as a young person eager to try new things and make a difference. Since then, he’s worn many hats, from Section Leader to District volunteer and community champion. Along the way, he’s helped countless young people gain confidence, learn new skills, and build friendships that last a lifetime.

Now, as Lead Volunteer, Ollie will be supporting volunteers across the group and working alongside families, the community and South Ribble Scouts to ensure 2nd Longton continues to thrive and grow.

Ollie says: “Scouting has always been about giving young people opportunities they might not get anywhere else. I’m incredibly proud to lead a group with such a strong tradition in the village and excited to help it continue to grow, especially as we look to welcome even more young people into Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts in the future.”

What’s next for 2nd Longton?

Under Ollie’s leadership, 2nd Longton will continue to offer exciting programmes for young people aged 4 to 14, with an ambitious vision for the future – including expanding the team of adult volunteers and exploring new ways to be active in the local community.

We’re confident that Ollie’s leadership will bring energy, innovation, and a deep commitment to helping every young person gain the Skills for Life that Scouting offers.

Please join us in congratulating Ollie on this well-deserved new role – and if you’d like to get involved in supporting Scouting in Longton, we’d love to hear from you.
