Introducing our new Scouts UK Ambassadors

Date: 24th Dec 2024 Author: Jon Nutten

This week, we’re so pleased to be welcoming five new Scouts Ambassadors to our team.

Scouts Ambassadors are national supporters who help raise awareness of our work, reach out to new people and communities. They’re volunteers who are passionate about the difference we make, helping young people gain skills for life.

Each of them is an expert in their own field – they’ve used their skills to succeed. Some are known for their work on TV or in the media. Others have achieved great feats of exploration or endurance. Many were Scouts themselves when they were younger and still volunteer locally today.

Reaching new audiences

Our new ambassadors also have large followings on social media, which will help introduce Scouts to new audiences, helping us recruit more adult volunteers.

They’ve all spent time with Scouts and volunteers, joining hikes, evening meetings and jamborees, getting to know how our movement works. They’ve been so impressed with those they’ve met.

A welcome from the Chief Scout

‘It’s a privilege to welcome these fantastic new ambassadors to our Scouts family, Each of them is committed to helping more young people gain skills for life. They’re champions for the outdoors and I know will make such a difference. A big thank you to them all.

So, we’ve peaked your interest. Who are our fantastic new ambassadors?

The footballer and broadcaster

Liam MacDevitt is a former professional footballer and now a TV presenter and broadcaster, including for BBC’s Match of the Day X and Football Focus. ‘Learning to be adaptable in the outdoors and being able to overcome challenges is so important for young people.’

The inspirer

Zanna van Dijk is a champion for outdoor adventures and speaks about the benefits of nature, the outdoors and hiking – particularly for women.  ‘I want to show young people is a place for them. I feel that young people through Scouts can connect with the outdoors and each other, building confidence and resilience.’

The foodie

Ollie Eats is a chef, as well as Scout parent and volunteer, with a particular love of outdoor cooking. He shares his tips and recipes on TikTok and Instagram with thousands of fans. ‘I love teaching people skills for life. In Scouts, one thing we love is welcoming new volunteers. It’s a great community.’

The globetrotter

Louis Cole is a travel and adventure vlogger. He’s explored the world and has a huge following on YouTube and Instagram, inspiring new generations to seek new horizons. But adventure can start close to home: ‘I remember as a kid loving going on hikes, camping places, just exploring. I think exploring the beauty of your natural area is something that I highly recommend.’

The extreme adventurer

Sean Conway is an endurance athlete and record breaker. He’s swam, ran and cycled the length of Britain, and completed 105 iron man triathalons in 105 days. He also once ran the London marathon dressed as a giant Scout badge. ‘Scouts is so good for young people because it builds confidence, practical skills and a sense of community.’

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
