Celebrating Our Young People’s Top Awards in South Ribble

Date: 1st Jan 2026 Author: Jon Nutten

At South Ribble District Scouts, we believe that Scouting is about learning, growing, and developing skills for life. Across our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts, young people have achieved incredible things throughout 2025, and it’s been amazing to see their dedication, teamwork, and spirit in action.

Squirrels (4–6) – Chief Scout Acorn

Our youngest members have taken their first steps into Scouting with confidence and curiosity. The Chief Scout Acorn Award marks the start of their adventure, and in 2025, 44 Squirrels earned their Acorn Award. To achieve it, they explore the world around them, try new activities, work together, and develop confidence. These first badges are all about learning, teamwork, and laying the foundations for future Scouting success.

Beavers (6–8) – Chief Scout Bronze

Beavers have shown energy, enthusiasm, and commitment every week, developing new skills and supporting one another. Achieving the Chief Scout Bronze Award celebrates their perseverance and community spirit. In 2025, 51 Beavers earned their Bronze Award by completing activities that helped them learn new skills, support their Colony, and contribute to their community. These challenges also help them build confidence, teamwork, and independence, laying the foundations for future Scouting success.

Cubs (8–10½) – Chief Scout Silver

Cubs have embraced challenge, adventure, and leadership this year — from teamwork to creative projects and outdoor skills. Earning the Chief Scout Silver Award demonstrates persistence, skill development, and initiative. 36 Cubs achieved Silver in 2025, completing a range of challenges that require them to plan and take part in activities, develop practical and outdoor skills, and show leadership within their Sixes. This achievement reflects how our programme is shaped by young people, for young people, helping them gain real-life skills.

Scouts (10½–14) – Chief Scout Gold

Scouts have taken on challenges and leadership opportunities across their Troops, and the Chief Scout Gold Awardrecognises dedication, resilience, and skills for life. 33 Scouts earned Gold in 2025, completing a variety of challenging activities, demonstrating leadership, taking part in community projects, and reflecting on personal growth. This top award showcases their resilience, commitment, and readiness for the next stage of Scouting, with the support of amazing volunteers guiding them along the way.

Skills for Life in Action

Every Top Award earned reflects Scouting’s core values: adventure, community, and personal development. From teamwork and resilience to problem-solving and leadership, these awards are about preparing young people for life beyond Scouting, confident, capable, and ready to make a difference.

Thank You to Volunteers

Behind every award are the amazing volunteers who guide, support, and inspire young people every week. Their commitment is what allows Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts to grow, explore, and achieve.

We’re incredibly proud of every young person who has achieved a Top Award this year, and we can’t wait to see what adventures, challenges, and skills for life 2026 brings!
