Lead, Inspire and Shape the Future of Scout Network in South Ribble

Date: 19th Apr 2025 Author: Jon Nutten

We’re looking for a new Network Team Leader to join our 14–24 Team and help 18–25s achieve more than they ever thought possible. This is your chance to help young adults unlock their potential, gain life skills, and make memories that last a lifetime.

Scout Network is where 18-25-year-olds challenge themselves, grow their confidence, and shape their own adventures—whether through international expeditions, community impact projects, or working towards Top Awards like the King’s Scout Award, Explorer Belt, or Scouts of the World Award.

And right now, Scout Network in South Ribble is thriving. Over the past year, young people in our District have achieved:

  • 16 King’s Scout Awards
  • 10 Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards
  • 4 Explorer Belts

Each of these awards represents months (and sometimes years) of dedication, challenge, and growth, and we want to keep that momentum going. Read more about Top Awards and adventure in Scout Network

What’s the role?

As Network Team Leader, you’ll be part of the wider 14–24 Team, working alongside the Explorer Scouts Team Leader and UK Network Team to grow, develop, and champion the Scout Network locally.

You’ll:

  • Encourage and inspire 18–25s to lead their own programme and pursue their Top Awards
  • Provide guidance and support to help young adults shape their own Scouting journey
  • Connect with local Groups, partners, and Explorer Units to support progression into the Network
  • Promote flexible, inclusive volunteering opportunities that fit around study, work, or life
  • Be a voice for young adults in District conversations and help grow our next generation of leaders

Tools, Support and Flexibility

As Network Team Leader, you’ll be supported by our 14-24 team and resources designed to help you thrive.

You’ll have access to:

  • peer network of Network Leaders across the UK to share ideas and support
  • Flexible volunteering options that fit around work, study, and life
  • You don’t need to be a Scouting expert – just someone who believes in young people and wants to help them take the lead and grow.

Volunteering with Scouts doesn’t just make a difference – it builds your skills too. From project planning to team leadership, this role can help boost your confidence, leadership and employability, giving you real-life experience that stands out to employers.

You don’t need to be a Scouting expert – just someone who believes in young people and wants to help them take the lead and grow.

Why Scout Network matters

Scout Network allows young people to explore what matters most to them – climbing mountains, tackling social issues, or working towards life-changing awards. It’s about saying yes to opportunities, trying new things, and being part of something bigger. As Network Team Leader, you will be the person who says, “You can do this—and I’ll support you to get there.”

Who we’re looking for

You don’t need to have all the answers – just the belief that young people can do incredible things.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about youth development and skills for life
  • Can listen, encourage, and support young adults
  • Enjoys bringing people together and helping them thrive
  • Wants to make a difference, with flexibility around how and when they volunteer

Ready to lead the change?

If you’re excited about helping 18-25 year olds reach their potential and want to be part of shaping what Scout Network looks like in South Ribble, we’d love to hear from you. This is a flexible volunteer role designed to fit around your lifestyle. On average, you can expect to contribute around 4–6 hours per month, including:

  • South Ribble District (role can be hybrid)
  • Flexible hours around your availability
  • Full support and induction provided
  • Collaborating with other local volunteers

Much of the role can be done remotely and at times that suit you — perfect for someone with other commitments looking to make a big difference.

This is your chance to lead a vital team that shapes every volunteer’s experience and, in turn, supports even more young people in gaining Skills for Life. Ready to apply or find out more? Contact us for a no-pressure chat—we’d love to hear from you.
