Youth Leads are passionate volunteers, dedicated to empowering young people and ensuring their voices are at the heart of Scouting in their local area. As a Youth Lead, you’ll inspire and support other volunteers to embed young people’s ideas and decisions into the Scouts’ activities and operations.

Being a Youth Commissioner is an amazing role. As well as helping to drive youth shaped locally and giving young people a say, you’ll also be learning loads of new skills and having fun along the way.

You’ll get experience and develop skills that will look seriously impressive on a CV or university application – things like teamwork, communication, and organisation, but also experience with governance, working with young people, and leading others.

Oliver Gunning has been our District Youth Lead for last 12+ months and has done a great job for us is keeping us on the right track with the young people. Oliver is now looking to extend his own experience and is focusing on this studies. This means we are seeking a new, enthusiastic individual to take on the task.

About the Role:
As the District Youth Lead, you’ll work closely with young people, adult volunteers, and the District team to ensure that youth voices are at the heart of everything we do. From developing youth forums to supporting young leaders, you’ll play a key role in creating opportunities for young people to lead, decide, and shape Scouting in South Ribble.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Setting up and running youth forums to hear what our young people want.
  • Supporting and mentoring Young Leaders in their roles.
  • Working alongside the District team to ensure the Scouting programme is truly youth-shaped.
  • Inspiring young people to step up and lead!

What We’re Looking For:

  • A strong belief in youth-led Scouting.
  • Great communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to inspire and empower others.
  • Aged 18 or over – no previous Scouting experience is necessary, just a passion for making a difference!
