Thank You for Making Scouting Possible

Date: 3rd Aug 2026 Author: Jon Nutten

As another Scouting year comes to a close, I wanted to say one simple thing – thank you.

Looking back over the past year, I’m incredibly proud of everything our volunteers have achieved across South Ribble. From Squirrels and Beavers through to Scout Network, every Group, Unit and volunteer team has played its part in giving young people the opportunity to learn new skills, grow in confidence, build lasting friendships and experience adventures they’ll never forget.

Whether you’ve led a section, organised a camp, supported behind the scenes, served as a Trustee, helped maintain equipment or been there to encourage a young person, thank you.

Every role matters, and every contribution has helped make South Ribble Scouts what it is today.

Since becoming District Lead Volunteer, I’ve spent time listening to volunteers from across the District. One message has come through clearly: volunteers want to feel welcomed, supported and valued. That has reinforced our commitment to building a South Ribble Scouts where everyone has a place to belong, not just our young people, but every volunteer too.

We’ve made a positive start, but this is only the beginning. I want to continue meeting volunteers from every Group and Unit, hearing your ideas and experiences, and working together to build an even stronger South Ribble Scouts for the future.

This summer is another fantastic example of that commitment in action. While many of us will enjoy a well-earned break, others will be busy delivering camps, adventures and international experiences. This year, our Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members have travelled to France, taken part in Spejdernes Lejr in Denmark, and are representing South Ribble at the Central European Jamboree in Hungary. None of these opportunities would be possible without the dedication of our volunteers.

I hope that, wherever this summer takes you, you find time to relax, spend time with family and friends, and return feeling refreshed and ready for another exciting year of Scouting.

Thank you for your commitment, your enthusiasm and everything you do for young people across South Ribble. It is a privilege to volunteer alongside you, and I’m excited for what we can achieve together in the year ahead.

Have a fantastic summer.
