Shona’s Making a Difference – Celebrating Her Diversity Award Nomination!
At Scouts, we believe that everyone is welcome. We stand together, celebrate differences, and create a space where every young person and volunteer feels included. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to celebrate Shona Thompson, a dedicated Scouting volunteer, nursing student, and passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion, who has been nominated for a National Diversity Award for her outstanding work in raising awareness and promoting equality.
Shona’s passion for making a difference has made a real impact, ensuring that everyone feels seen, heard, and valued regardless of background. Reflecting on her nomination, Shona shared:
“It is amazing to be recognised for my efforts to help raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and promote inclusion of every community element. This award will go a long way to show that we are all human beings, and no matter our background, you will also be recognised.”
Beyond her healthcare studies, Shona is an active voice for the LGBTQIA+ community. She works tirelessly to raise awareness, break down barriers, and ensure everyone feels supported, valued, and heard.
Her advocacy aligns with the core values of Scouting—empowering young people and adults to be themselves and make a difference. Through her work, Shona is helping build a more inclusive society where everyone is welcome, regardless of their background.
This nomination is a huge achievement for Shona and everyone championing inclusion and diversity in Scouts and beyond. We know that small actions lead to big change, and we’re proud to be part of a movement where everyone belongs.
