Scouts UK Launches “Mini Golf Challenge Badge” to Bring Skills for Life to Camp

Date: 1st Apr 2026 Author: Jon Nutten

South Ribble Scouts are excited to announce the brand-new Mini Golf Challenge Badge, a playful yet skill-building addition to the Scouts programme! ⛳

The badge encourages both young people and adult volunteers to develop key Skills for Life while taking part in one of the most fun challenges you can imagine at camp or during a Scout night: mini golf! Whether it’s tackling a local course across South Ribble or creating your own “Scout-style” course with obstacles and surprises, this badge celebrates teamwork, problem-solving, and a little healthy competition.

To earn the badge, teams of Scouts and volunteers must:

  • Plan and complete the course together
  • Demonstrate patience, strategy, and encouragement on each hole
  • Support and cheer on each other
  • Sink at least one hole-in-one during the activity
  • Respect the rules, the course, and each other

“Mini golf might sound playful, but it’s a brilliant way to practise leadership, communication, and teamwork — core Skills for Life that Scouts UK encourages every day,” said a spokesperson for South Ribble Scouts.

While you might imagine Scouts navigating “extreme” holes made from logs, ropes, and sleeping bags, the real focus is on the skills and experiences Scouts develop together. From cheering on teammates to thinking strategically about each putt, both young people and volunteers can grow in confidence, learn from each other, and have a lot of fun along the way.

The badge is open to all sections, giving Scouts and volunteers across South Ribble the chance to enjoy the challenge, take creative control by building their own course, and celebrate their teamwork.

“Whether it’s a local mini golf course or a DIY adventure at your next camp or Scout night, Scouts is all about learning by doing — together. That’s what Skills for Life is really about, and it’s no joke!”

How to Get Involved

Scouts and volunteers can find more details about the Mini Golf Challenge Badge on the Scouts UK website. Activities and challenges can be completed at local courses or by building your own Scout-style course at your next camp or Scout night.

So grab your putters, team up with your Scouts, and get ready to take on the tricky holes together — there’s a badge for everyone!

Happy April Fools’ Day from South Ribble Scouts!
