Help Shape the Future of Scouting in Leyland and Lostock Hall

Date: 26th Jan 2026 Author: Jon Nutten

South Ribble District Scouts is looking for new Group Lead Volunteers to help lead and support Scouting in Leyland and Lostock Hall, and make a lasting difference to young people in our local communities.

Behind every great Scout group is a team of dedicated volunteers working together to make adventure happen. Group Lead Volunteers play a vital role in shaping the future of their group, supporting fellow volunteers, and ensuring young people can enjoy safe, exciting and youth-shaped programmes week after week.

What does a Group Lead Volunteer do?

Group Lead Volunteers are at the heart of local Scouting. They:

  • Lead and support the volunteer team across Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts
  • Help create welcoming, safe and well-run Scout groups
  • Champion young people’s voice and ensure they shape programmes
  • Work with the District to grow Scouting locally and strengthen community links

This is a people-focused leadership role, not a hands-on programme delivery position. You don’t need to do everything yourself; you’ll be supported by a wider District team and Scouts’ national volunteer learning framework.

Why this role matters

Scouting in Leyland and Lostock Hall gives hundreds of young people the chance to:

  • Build confidence and independence
  • Learn teamwork, leadership and resilience
  • Try new activities and adventures
  • Develop skills for life that last far beyond their time in Scouting

By stepping into a Group Lead Volunteer role, you’ll help ensure these opportunities continue to grow, creating spaces where young people feel supported, inspired and able to thrive.

We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone interested in supporting Scouting at the following groups…

  • 1st Lostock Hall Scout Group
  • Leyland St Ambrose Scout Group
  • Leyland St James Scout Group

Each group plays a vital role in their local community, offering young people adventure, friendship and skills for life, and each has a passionate team of volunteers ready to welcome new leadership and support.

Who can apply?

You don’t need to have been a Scout yourself or hold all the answers. We’re looking for people who:

  • Enjoy supporting and motivating others
  • Care about young people and their development
  • Want to make a positive impact in their local community
  • Are happy to work as part of a friendly, supportive team

Flexible volunteering options are available, and full training and ongoing support are provided.

Ready to get involved?

If you’re based in or connected to Leyland or Lostock Hall, this is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the future of Scouting locally and make a real difference where it matters most.
