Explorers Reimagined: A New Chapter Begins for Young People in South Ribble
Explorer Scouts are entering an exciting new chapter, with a refreshed programme and a bold new look designed to help young people find adventure, develop real-world skills and discover a place where they belong.
The new Explorer programme has been shaped by more than 3,000 young people and volunteers from across the UK, ensuring it reflects the lives, ambitions and experiences of today’s teenagers. It’s the biggest refresh to the section since Explorer Scouts launched almost 25 years ago, bringing together outdoor adventure, youth-shaped experiences and skills for the future.

A programme built for today’s young people
Young people have been at the heart of the redesign, helping to create a programme that’s relevant, flexible and exciting.
Explorer Scouts aged 14–18 will be able to earn 40 new and updated Activity Badges and Challenge Awards, including new badges in Employability, Democracy, Content Creation, Life Skills and STEM. These sit alongside favourites such as Pioneering, Survival Skills, Camper and Caving, combining traditional Scouting with skills for modern life.
A place to belong
The refreshed programme reflects Scouts UK’s vision of creating A Place to Belong – where every young person is welcome, supported and encouraged to be themselves.
Explorer Scouts continues to offer opportunities to build confidence, develop leadership skills, experience adventure and prepare for the future, while giving young people more choice in shaping their own journey through Scouting.
What this means for South Ribble Scouts
Across South Ribble, our Explorer Units already provide incredible opportunities for young people to challenge themselves, make lifelong friendships and develop Skills for Life.
The refreshed programme will give our young people even more opportunities to explore new interests, gain practical skills and prepare for life beyond school, while continuing to enjoy the adventure, teamwork and fun that make Scouting unique.
Whether you’re already part of Explorer Scouts or looking for your next adventure, there’s never been a better time to get involved.
