Mike Love Trophy 2023

Between: 30th September 2023 - 1st October 2023 Location: TBC Sections: Explorer Scouts

Michael Love was a Venture Scout in South Ribble who went on to join the armed forces. Sadly, Michael was killed during the Falklands War and his parents donated the Mike Love Trophy to South Ribble Scouts as a memorial.

The competition for which the trophy is awarded is an overnight, points based, storey led incident hike which is both physically and mentally challenging. Typically, the route is about 15 to 20 miles long with a number of bases where various tasks must be performed. The storey and the route are kept secret until the night of the competition and teams will be given envelopes which need to be opened in sequence during the course of the competition.

This year the competition will be held overnight 30th Sept/1st October 2023 and teams of between 4 and 6 Explorer Scouts are invited to enter the competition. Teams will be expected to be able to be able to set and read a map, use a compass and be familiar with grid references, (during the competition the use of navigation aids is not allowed).

Teams will be set off at 20 minute intervals from the assembly location and they will require transport to the start of the hike, no more than 20 miles away. Teams will need to be collected from the finish at 9am on the Sunday and the location will be sent out to home contacts after all teams have been set off.

The closing date for entries is 21:00 hrs on Friday 22nd September 2023. Teams can be from the same Explorer Unit or from different Units.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
