Looking Ahead: Jon Nutten Appointed Interim Lead Volunteer for South Ribble Scouts
South Ribble Scouts has announced the appointment of Jon Nutten as Interim Lead Volunteer as the District looks ahead to its next chapter, with a continued focus on supporting volunteers, strengthening communities and creating opportunities for young people.
The appointment comes during an important period for South Ribble Scouts as the District looks ahead with renewed focus and ambition, ensuring young people continue to access the adventure, friendships and experiences that Scouting provides.
South Ribble Scouts is one of the largest Districts across West Lancashire, supporting more than 1,700 young people through adventure, challenge and community. Every week, volunteers help young people gain Skills for Life, build confidence and discover what they’re capable of through fun, challenge and everyday adventure.
Scouting’s new strategy, A Place to Belong, focuses on creating environments where young people and volunteers feel welcome, included and able to thrive. Leaders within South Ribble say that commitment will remain central as the District moves forward.
South Ribble Scouts also remains committed to Youth Shaped Scouting, ensuring young people can influence experiences, share ideas and help shape the future of Scouting locally.
Before looking ahead, South Ribble Scouts also wanted to recognise and thank Stuart Robinson for his contribution and commitment during his time as Lead Volunteer.
Jon Nutten, Interim Lead Volunteer for South Ribble Scouts, said: “Firstly, I want to thank Stuart for his commitment, support and everything he has contributed during his time with South Ribble Scouts and wish him all the very best for the future.
One of my core beliefs is that we achieve more when we come together and work together. We have an incredible team of volunteers and a fantastic community around us. I want us to continue creating spaces where young people and volunteers feel they belong, build friendships, have fun, grow in confidence and play an active part in their communities.
Reflect. Refocus. Renew. felt like the right theme because this year gives us the opportunity to recognise our journey so far, come together, refocus on what matters most and renew our ambitions for the future.
Together we have an opportunity to continue building a District where everyone, regardless of their background, feels welcome, supported and able to gain Skills for Life. That also means continuing to listen to and involve our young people, ensuring their voices help shape the experiences, opportunities and future of Scouting across South Ribble.”

Cath Lee, Lead Volunteer for West Lancashire Scouts, said: “I would like to thank Stuart for his commitment and contribution to South Ribble Scouts during his time as Lead Volunteer and wish him all the very best for the future.
I am delighted that Jon has agreed to take on the role of Interim Lead Volunteer. Jon brings strong leadership experience, a passion for Scouting and a clear commitment to supporting volunteers.
I look forward to working alongside Jon, the Trustee Board and volunteers as South Ribble continues to support young people, strengthen communities and create places where everyone can belong.”
Martin Sumner, Chair of Trustees for South Ribble Scouts, said: “South Ribble Scouts is supported by an incredible team of volunteers whose commitment and passion continue to make a difference to young people every week. During periods of change, we must continue supporting one another and remain focused on what matters most, creating opportunities where young people and volunteers can belong, thrive and gain Skills for Life.
I’d also like to thank Stuart for everything he has contributed during his time as Lead Volunteer and congratulate Jon on taking on the role of Interim Lead Volunteer as we look ahead to the next chapter for South Ribble Scouts.”
As South Ribble Scouts looks ahead, its focus remains firmly on supporting volunteers, strengthening communities, and ensuring every young person can access opportunities to learn, grow and discover what they’re capable of.
The District will continue working closely with volunteers, young people, Trustees and West Lancashire Scouts as it shapes the next chapter for South Ribble together.
