Say hello to Squirrels, the newest branch of our family tree

Date: 11th Sep 2021 Author: Jon Nutten

We’re so proud to welcome 4-5 year olds to our Scouts family, helping them gain skills for life when it matters most. But we need adult volunteers to help make it happen.

Why now?

We want to reach young people who could benefit most from Scouts. Research suggests that the earlier a young person accesses non-formal education, the more positive the impact on their prospects.

There are already various models of Scouts across the world. All providing some really positive feedback. As such there have been a number of successful pilot schemes.

Benefits of joining Squirrels

Squirrels is a completely new provision for 4–5 year olds. There are plenty of reasons to get stuck in, as Squirrels gives young people the chance to:

  • Make friends
  • Have fun outdoors
  • Learn new things
  • Earn badges through fun activities

Today The Scouts launch our new early years age range – you can read all about that here.

In South Ribble we don’t yet have any Squirrels Dreys but we would love to have soon. The County we are working closely with HQ and ourselves to ensure we have all that is in place to open new Squirrel Dreys.

If you are interested in volunteering as part of this or any other of our sections then please visit our Join us.

For more information on Squirrels visit the HQ website here.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
