Let’s go International in Lockdown
We may not be able to travel for our international experiences due to the covid-19 pandemic, but members of South Ribble are finding new ways to bring international to them.
We had a couple of cubs and beavers prepare a whole meal for their family based on Hong Kong cuisine. A quote from the parent – “It was amazing! Even better than you would get in a take-away”.
We have had scouts visit Australia via zoom – 5th Penwortham Pegasus Scouts and 1st North Turramurra Scout Group in South Australia came together. Sue, their Scout Leader, has been to visit our Thursday Scouts before the lockdown. 5th Penwortham Pegasus have been learning about Australia and Sue gave us some facts about Australia – including snakes, leeches etc. Their main camp site runs up to the ocean with a swimming lake separated from the Ocean by a shark net.
Our joint Scout online meeting was attended by 4 Australian Scout Leaders, 8 Australian Scouts, 3 5th Penwortham Leaders, 2 Young Leaders and 11 Scouts. The pictures went onto a second screen.
Our scouts are working for the International badge and World Challenge.
2 of our scouts Neeve and Henry wrote and spoke about the history of 5th Penwortham.
The first 3 in the Kahoot quiz were all from 5th Penwortham – Sue the Scout Leader in Australia is going to give them some tuition.
Wonderful technology so many miles apart.
Two of our Explorer Scout Units (Stanhope and De la Roche) went all international with the Eurovision Song Contest. They took a one way ticket to Rotterdam via zoom and embraced all things Eurovision, Glitz, Glam and some cheesy songs right from their own living room.
