Introducing new members of the UK Leadership Team
As I look to start in my role as UK Chief Commissioner, I felt it was important to have a strong leadership team to help support the movement. This led to the creation of a new UK Leadership Team, taking on the excellent work of Team UK.
In June, I started recruitment for six new members to join our UK Leadership Team. I’d like to thank the search group for their hard work, and all our members who applied for these roles. I’m delighted to confirm the following appointments:
CJ Ledger is appointed to be Deputy UK Chief Commissioner (Support). CJ is currently our UK Commissioner for Perception and a Deputy County Commissioner in Surrey. CJ will help lead our movement and specifically our UK Commissioners for Inclusion, People, Perception & Programme. CJ works in strategic communication for a UK charity.
Craig Turpie is appointed to be Deputy UK Chief Commissioner (Transformation). Craig ends his four year term as Chair of the World Scout Committee shortly and was previously our UK Commissioner for Programme. Craig will also help lead our movement and specifically the work we do to refresh and develop Scouts. Craig is a director of a digital transformation agency.
Sam Morris is confirmed as our Chief Commissioner for England. Sam is well known in England having previously been the Deputy Chief Commissioner. Sam will lead our team of Regional Commissioners and strengthen the support we offer. Sam is a Head of Volunteering in an NHS Trust.
Jack Caine is appointed as our UK Commissioner for People. Jack is currently a deputy in this team, having previously been a County Commissioner. As part of his responsibilities, he will lead our team working to improve our volunteer experience. Jack is an Assistant Head Teacher in a large secondary school.
Lewis Dangerfield is appointed as our UK Commissioner for Programme. Lewis currently leads our UK Scout Network as well as volunteering in Gloucestershire where he’s County Training Manager. Lewis is a Chief Financial Officer for a company operating in the energy sector.
Yousif Eltom is appointed to a newly created role of Race Equity Advisor within our UK Leadership Team. Yousif is currently the manager of Muslim Scout Fellowship Active Support Unit, having previously been a member of our Operations Committee. Yousif will work closely with myself and all members of the team to succeed in our ambition to open up Scouting to young people and adults from all backgrounds. Yousif is a group process improvement manager for a national food company.
CJ, Craig, Sam, Jack, Lewis & Yousif join our UK Leadership Team on 4 September. They will be joined by Andrew Sharkey (Chief Commissioner for Scotland), Callum Kaye (International Commissioner), Ollie Wood (UK Youth Commissioner), Rhian Moore (Chief Commissioner for Wales), Stephen Donaldson (Chief Commissioner for Northern Ireland) and Tom Milson (UK Commissioner for Inclusion) who transfer across from Team UK.
I know you’ll join me in welcoming the new team. An official handover will take place during Reunion 2021 on Saturday 4 September. There’s still plenty of time to register for Reunion 2021 to watch this session and take part in the other online workshops, training sessions, and the all-important socials.
Over the coming months we’ll share more about our vision and plans for the future and how we’ll look to provide support and leadership to our movement.
I would like to finish by offering some thanks. Kester Sharpe and Graeme Hamilton end their roles as Deputy UK Chief Commissioners. Amir Cheema ends his role as UK Commissioner for People and Wendy Human ends her role as UK Commissioner for Programme. All of them have led our movement with dedication and by example. We’ve been in good hands and they’ve set a high standard for the future team to aspire to. I will say more about Tim during our handover on 4 September. However I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing him well for the future. We’ve been lucky to be led by Tim and the team.
Best wishes,
Carl Hankinson
UK Chief Commissioner (Designate)
